Practices and Team

When and where do you practice?

Practices are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for advanced wrestlers, Tuesday and Thursday for newer wrestlers. Practices start at 6:30.

Practice is at the Macopin Middle School gym

Is practice mandatory?

No, but we suggest athletes attend all available practices.

How many athletes are on the team?

HWC has been growing annually. We expect to field a team of 90-100 athletes each year, but reserve the right to change acceptance based on our coaching staff.

Is the program only for West Milford kids?

The majority of our wrestlers are from West Milford, but we do have families from towns in the surrounding area.

How do you account for different ages and levels of experience?

Our athletes are divided into several teams which are determined based on age and experience. Newer wrestlers compete in recreational style matches designed to provide mat time in a competitive environment. More experienced wrestlers are part of our dual teams (K-6, K-8)

Season Information

When is wrestling season?

Practice starts in mid-November.

Competition is December-February

Youth States Championship is in March; this is optional and wrestlers must place in USAW qualifying tournaments to be eligible to compete in states. Those tournaments are separate from HWC.

Does my athlete have to compete?

If your athlete is a member of a dual team it is expected they compete.

If your athlete is not on a dual team, we encourage them to compete as mat time is important to allow athletes to learn.

Where are the matches held?

HWC competes in meets and tournaments throughout the North Jersey area. We also host several throughout the season.
